Robert has been part of the S&T team since 2000, originally seconded from Freehills’ Sydney office, where he held the position of Executive Counsel. Robert’s main practice areas in Indonesia include corporate/M&A, financing and security, foreign direct investment, energy & natural resources, employment and insurance law.
For the past 25 years in Indonesia, Robert has been acting for multinational and local clients in a wide variety of significant commercial projects. Robert has also had extensive experience advising clients on the establishment and structuring of new investments in Indonesia, including drafting joint venture and shareholders’ agreements, as well as advising on a broad range of corporate operational matters.
With a background in common law and developed expertise in the civil law, Robert can provide practical, commercial advice that takes into consideration an understanding of both legal systems.

- Advising on and documenting restructuring of the shareholdings in the subsidiary of a multinational pharmaceutical company.
- Advising on and documenting the sale and purchase of the majority ownership of a leading multinational insurance company’s Indonesian subsidiary.
- Advising a multinational donor on its US$649 million grant to Indonesia by way of a trust fund structure for poverty relief projects, targeting the improvement of financing access to MSMEs and for logistics infrastructure development, including providing detailed employment structuring advice.
- Advising and negotiating on behalf of an Indonesian SOE on its proposed US$2.1 billion gasification project including reviewing and negotiating an extensive set of shareholding and operating documents.
- Advising on and documenting the merger of two leading Indonesian agribusiness companies.
- Providing extensive environmental/OH&S compliance advice to a leading multinational cloud computing platform provider based in USA.
- Advising numerous multinational companies on their Indonesian subsidiaries’ employment documentation, expatriate engagements, structuring, terminations, company regulations, collective labour agreements and legal compliance.
